And the votes are over

And I've decided on the series to focus on next.

350 vs 286. 56% vs 44%. By the votes alone, Hyouketsu Kyoukai had a lead over Sayonara.

However, That's not a overly large lead that Hyouketsu Kyoukai is holding. And considering that...

1.) Comments that are for Sayonara are generally much more convincing as to why I should continue the series first.
2.) Me, Drkmerc, Alice, Yebanis, Sveroz and Wing have unanimously preferred Sayonara over Eden, for various different reasons.

And so, even though it's against the votes, I feel that the 2 points above are enough to overturn the small difference in votes (and I did say votes will not account for anything). Well, sorry to all the people who voted for and prefers Hyouketsu Kyoukai. Looks like you guys will have to put up with Sayonara Piano Sonata for quite a while.

Next, I am still seeing many requests for Onii-ai (here and some other forums elsewhere), so I guess I'll just make it clear here. Onii-ai is sort of the stepping board which I had used to make this blog known to the rest of the internet community (well, more of like Oreimo summaries, but whatever), and it will be the project which I will definitely give it the topmost priority as long as this blog stays alive. Should the completed Chinese translations for vol 4 pops out the next day, I'll be pausing Hyouketsu Kyoukai and Sayonara Piano Sonata to work on that. However, that's IF the Chinese translations comes out. I don't really know the progress of it, or if it is being worked on at all. There are the official Chinese translations to fall back on (which I purchase), but it is currently only at volume 1, and optimistically speaking, the earliest it will take to get vol 4 published is 6 months. And because of the lack of materials to work on, Onii-ai will be currently on hiatus till I get my hands on something. It's on hiatus not because I don't want to work on it, but because I can't.

If there's any Jap -> Eng translators who want to take over from vol 4 onward due to my poor command of Japanese and the pathetic dependence on Chinese translations , feel free to do so. Kindly inform me so I can scrap it off my projects list. I can then perhaps add a replacement sis-con harem series in there (which there are quite a few), or just focus on the remaining two titles.

Well, that's all.

  4. Great! Onii-Ai should be the priority, as I said in my comment at the vote.
Of course, is the priority but only if there is material to translate ;)
    Excellent decision my friend ;)
And good luck with all this projects ;)

  7. Well, I can't say I'm sad, since I ended up choosing Piano over Eden.

Believe it or not, I did spend a considerable amount of time considering both series and, well, I realized that, all considered, I like Piano better.
Even though Eden have the action, and it is also unbelievably amazing, it just don't give me that heart warming feeling Piano always manages to convey. Also, I don't care if you only consider Mafuyu-chan a "standard loli tsundere", she is too f*king kawaii and after having a look at the volumes ahead, I just need to know how it develops.

Although, Onii-ai is still my number one I guess, even though is just one of many "incest" love stories one should find easily, it still brings me a lot of joy. Also, Akiko is lovely, and as long as I live none of you shall ever try to woo her, otherwise thou shalt face my wrath.

And I understand that you need the chinese translators to be done with it before you work on it, and that leads me to my question, is there anything we, english-speaking readers, can do to convince them to translate? Considering they haven't started yet.

    1. Theres not much you can do, they will pick it up whenever they wish/want to. Guess they are not really into it compare to other chinese light novels =P.

So keito, is mushi uta 2nd place for u? I'm sad to know that =(

      Delete
    2. I'm sad that you are sad, by it would be a lie to say it wasn't.

Although, i must admit, Mushi uta already overcame Piano, and I believe it is gradually overcoming Onii-ai. Mushi is still my second, but that may change, given enough time.

But I must say now, even if Onii-ai becomes my second, Akiko is still mine, in not joking about that wrath thing.

  10. So there really was no point to that vote. You guys most probably wanted the time off, and called an unncecessary poll.

    Replies
    1. That is a rather bald argument.

They probably did it because they wanted to see which one we liked best, and they used the results as a base, if it have been 90% Eden and 10% Piano I'm sure they would do Eden. I was more a gathering of intel then a decision.

And so what if they wanted to get some time off?
They are people who study or have jobs, not translation machines.

  11. Well that's too bad. One less thing to look forward to I guess. But having us vote when you were always going to do piano anyway is kind of mean spirited....

  14. The votes are used to see the relative popularity of the projects among the readers. If there are overwhelming number of people who prefer either (2/3), I would have went according to what the readers wanted. To be perfectly honest, I don't mind doing either, and I am really not decided then.

Ultimately, I have stated in bold that I'll not base my results on purely the votes alone. Comments about how Sayonara Piano Sonata is unique in its music + romance theme has also lent weight in my decision making. There are many other fantasy series out there in Baka Tsuki, as stated in the comments, but there's not really much series in Baka Tsuki that you can compare with to Sayonara Piano Sonata. Someone mentioned something about Nodame Cantabile, but that's manga, and not a LN.

Also, it makes sense for me to work on what my editors prefer to do, should the difference among the choices of the readers not be that great, and in that aspect, the preference is overwhelming.

And me holding the votes just so I can take a break is stupid. I am the translator of this blog, and I can hold any breaks I want indefinitely if I want to.

    1. It makes sense for you to work on what your editors prefer, and I have nothing against that. Personally I only worked on projects I liked myself.

Everything else is just an excuse though. If you want to do something you'll find a way, if you don't want to do something you'll find an excuse.

It seems to me you did the vote expecting Piano would win, but since it didn't you found other excuses. Just step up and say "This is what we want to work on" plain and simple without the other BS.

It's your right as the person doing the work to choose what you do or to even quit if you want. But naturally people are going be disappointed if you dangle something in front of them and make them think they are getting it, then jerk it away at the last second and leave them with the knowledge it was a trick all along. And please don't insult me by acting like it wasn't a trick. I expected Piano to win when I saw it was being put to a vote, and you should have too. The actual results were unexpected.

    2. On the contrary, I have expected Hyouketsu Kyoukai to win by a huge margin. It is the more popular series with more replies and responses. Also, it is talked about on Baka Tsuki forums, plus it is more favorably rated on Baka Updates, one of the main traffic sources to this site. Moreover, I've started the polls right after Eden ends, so that gives it more exposure to the Eden readers.

I've no idea why you think Piano will win. It's pretty damn obvious from day one that Eden will win. It's just the margin of victory.

You are not me, so stop guessing around with your silly assumptions, and putting words into my mouth.

      Delete
    3. He said from the beginning that the poll wasn't going to be the only factor in deciding the next project when he first put up the poll, so please go back and re-read that post.

It's obvious he's explaining why he chose Piano over Eden, he's not making up excuses and the explanations are valid. He even said if Eden got as many votes as we expected we would go with it even if all of us preferred Piano, but I bet if we did what you wanted instead of what he wanted you wouldn't be posting that kind of comment.

I don't think any of us expected Piano to win either, from my convos with Nek0 we both seemed to agree that Eden was more popular with the majority of people who visit the blog and that was true, but obviously not that many more since Piano wasn't that far behind in the poll.

I think you're the one insulting Nek0 by saying he tricked you guys, he genuinely wanted everyone's opinion on it and he made a decision based on many factors and I think it was a fair decision. He translated 2 volumes of Eden rather quickly, which is more than enough on his part, and if he wants to he will continue the 3rd volume later on so just be patient, in the meantime you can still enjoy another series which you might not like as much as Eden but is still a good series worth reading.

    8. If I could prove you never intended to do Eden beyond reasonable doubt, that would be interesting. But I can only use your actions and words here, and you can make up an endless stream of excuses for those. I can show you your intentions, but most people won't accept that as real proof.

And if you could prove you actually did this with fair intentions then there would have been nothing I could say. But you can't, that's why you keep falling back on saying you wouldn't go on votes alone.

    9. "Vote on which series you prefer to be done next. While I will not base my decision entirely on the polls itself, it will definitely influence my decision. Also, feel free to voice out your opinions here."

      >While I will not base my decision entirely on the polls itself

Reading comprehension. Do you have it? I've already mentioned it since I started the votes. It will NOT be based solely on the votes.

And you do know what you've said is nothing more than conjectures - baseless slanders and accusations which people will find hard to swallow, especially when I am the one you are referring to. I've already stressed in bold that the votes is just part of my decision making process, but you seems adamant about how I should decide with just the votes alone.

Stop being butt-hurt and accept the fact that I have factored other things in, and chose not do your favorite series which you have voted for. If you are not happy, feel free to close the browser and leave. I am sure there's other LNs out there that is more worthy of your time. I am done here.

He said before that the poll results were going to be one of many factors in his decision making. In fact, he's actually giving the basis on which he made the final decision, but you perceived that as giving excuses. The key words in this post is "it seems to me"; you're basing every single claim on assumptions, and somehow you mistook them as facts.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------

"Actually, what I tell myself is "He's already lied once, so this is probably a lie too.""

Nek0 never once lied in any of his posts. He only said that the poll would influence his decision, but not by how much. If you seriously think he lied to you, then you must have a severe case of selective retention.

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------

"If I could prove you never intended to do Eden beyond reasonable doubt, that would be interesting. But I can only use your actions and words here, and you can make up an endless stream of excuses for those. I can show you your intentions, but most people won't accept that as real proof.

This is essentially what you're saying:
      > I can't prove that you did it, but I'm right because you can't prove that you DIDN'T do it.

This is appealing to ignorance. The accuser is ALWAYS the one that has burden of proof, not the accused. That and people won't accept you "showing someone's intentions" as proof because you can't actually read minds. If you actually believe you "know" a person's intentions for doing something, then you must be a narcissist that thinks every single idea that has ever been generated by your brain must be absolute truth.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------

"Looks like that one really got to you. I figured it would though, since people like you are only capable of things like this. You can't actually refute what I've said, so you have to resort to deleting my comments or other things. Good luck."

He's deleting your posts because they're a waste of bandwidth. Just as you have the ability to argue with us in anonymity, we have the ability to censor anything and everything you write. If you can't live with that, gtfo.

As seeing a little kid go berserk because she didn't get an iphone for Xmas. :P

  17. YA YOU'RE STARTED UP EDEN AGAIN!!!... No I actually read the post, I'm sorry, I look forward to more piano, I'm sorry. Haha overall I'm liking piano, I hope the story focus more on the other characters as well in the next volumes instead of a story for two people; however that still wouldn't be bad. His childhood friend seems like only a childhood friend with a onesided love. kagurazaka-sempai should push all three down and ra-- I mean form her own hare-- I mean show us she could take what she wants. They should give Mafuyu a "tsuide ni tsukutta dake dayo!" line while handing him a bento and looking away.

For now you get the "onii-ai seal of approval" to make piano's very own, one and only, mayumayu into our mascot "imouto"
