Future of this blog (and what may happen)

Well, I've just got back my grades not too long ago, and it is kind of shitty. I managed to pass it, but scraping my university studies is not what I had in mind. It's really below my threshold grade, and it took a huge chunk off my already mediocre GPA.

I have no idea what I'll do to this blog when my semester starts. For now, since I am still in my holidays, I will continue working on the translations. However, there is the small possibility of me dropping this site altogether after my holidays are over to focus on my final year. Or I may do the stuff at a really really slow pace, like, half a year for a volume. I'll take some time to think about it, and come up with a decision at the end of my holidays.

Just to inform you guys well ahead of time.

  2. Oh no! Sorry to hear about your studies. I hope, if anything, you keep the blog around! I'd hate to see it go. Thanks for the update, anyway!

  3. I don't really care how long it takes for you to finish a volume or so, so long as it we somehow get it, waiting is always an option... So as much as I selfishly request, Please consider not dropping the site.

    Thanks for the updates, especially Hyouketsu Kyoukai, I was really looking forward to that... ^_^;;

  4. It would suck to drop the site(to us of course), but I sure don't mind slow translation over the former. I understand somewhat as I also have sub-par GPA especially towards the final year I'm just merely trying not to let it drop lower. Best of lucks in your studies, sometimes luck really help.

  5. I think you just have to focus in your studies right now.

It's a pity, but it's better to work at a very slow pace before droop everything you have done. So I think the best is just TL when you are free and feel like it.

I was in the same position 6 months ago, so I can say that.

    Good look with your studies!

    1. *Good luck!

Seems like Opera enjoys correcting me each time I write something xD

  6. I think you should slow down when it is about the translation, and focus more on your final year and slow down as much as needed only do it if you really got the time.
However do let us now every now and then that you are still alive and kicking let us now what you are doing.
    And good luck

  7. Well that's unfortunate for many reasons, but do what you have to and I hope this site continues.

  8. One volume per half a year is not slow at all. I've seen projects (and currently following a few of them) which takes a lot slower translation. On the other through, since you have three projects..
Well, anyways, what I want to say is that you won't work slow. It's rather now you translate at inhuman speed, and as long as we will get (would get? Sorry, English is still not perfect) new chapters someday, waiting is not a problem.
Just don't drop blog, since some people (like me) would want to read/reread already translated chapters.

Thanks for job you've done, and I hope at some point you'll end at least Piano Sonata.
    Sincerely, zeek17.

    1. yeah, school's important. I really wanna see SPS end, the 4th novel and the Encore pieces

  9. Sorry to hear that, but in the end school is more important. Good luck.

  10. Hey, sorry to hear about your grades. if you decide yo drop this blog,it'd be perfectly understandable, studies are a lot more important. But ithink theres another option, you could recruit some translators willing to, and able to afford the ti me and effort needed to run the site while you focus on your studies. just a suggestion, though.

  11. Well. Real life is more important so you should focus on that. Whatever you decide to do know that we really appreciate the work so far.

  12. People are going to hate me for saying this, but I'll be blunt. If you think translating is taking too much of your time away from studying and is having a detrimental effect on your grades, then drop it immediately. That said, you need to think about the reason your grades from last semester were poor and how to fix it. I'm almost positive that you spend more time studying than me from what I've heard from you, so I think the problem is less the amount of time invested and more the material, the professor/lecture quality, and your studying methods (but in all seriousness, I have no idea how things are taught over there...not to mention we're completely different majors).
I actually don't know what else to say since I don't know the details, but do what you think is best, and know that I'll be there to troll you on MSN regardless.

    1. I probably spend more time doing last minute studying than you, but yeah. Key word is last minute studying. Apparently, that's just enough for a pass.

It's not really so much of translating that's affecting my grades, since it's more of my laziness. If I want to really pull up my grades, I may have to stop translating to dedicate the time spent there into my studies instead.

    2. And see you at 8am your time.

  13. Maybe you should change the way you study (i don't know how you spend your time so don't really sure). But that not like: more time==good grades.
    Na'~
whatever, If you stop stranlating, a bunch of people wold really sad( me & blablabla... very much), but that can't be help. Think about y'self first, that's the most important thing. you've done so many good stranlations so far, so no matter
    what you decide, thank you.
Finaaly, good luck with your reallife.

    1. Assuming they have someone to do it, not to demean BT, but my left hand is enough to count active English translators that actually do some stuff instead of doing 50 lines and disappear citing 'real life' and what not

      Delete
    2. nah, i'd say 3-4 hands would be enough and that's only on BT. + the point would be editing more than translating, imho.

      Delete
    3. BT's editing isn't that great and I don't think they would even care to take the time to edit it.

      Delete
    4. first, it really depends on the editor. second, it's way more comfortable for ppl to edit on BT than mail the tl the errors or write them in the comments. i say from experience.

  16. Been busy with work lately (working 2 jobs now) so I just barely saw this post today and while working with zgmfx09a is cool, if he needs to shut down the site to focus on his education then so be it. There's no way that translating light novels for us is worth his future so I believe that he should just stop translating altogether and get back on track in school and if he has time when he gets a job he should continue if he has enough free time/wants to. From what I know Singapore is one of the top countries when it comes to education, usually fighting for the top spot in the world with South Korea, so I can only imagine how strict and demanding school is there. I'll back up whatever choice zgmfx09a makes in the end though so in the end it's up to him and I wish him good luck.

  17. I will honestly voice my opinion: it would a be a pity if you really shut down the site after all of the hard work. I honestly thought so.

Still, I couldn't blatantly say whether it will be good or bad — your decision would be — since I also consider other's point of view.

Guess what? I'll just support any choice you will make, also wish you good luck and the best of future, dear friend.

The decision is yours to decide. Think it well, and make sure you won't regret it.

  18. It is your choice whether you drop this blog or continue it....
I will not voice my opinion on this matter cause it is your future where talking about so do what you think is right....
And we will wait for your answer

  19. Take a decade to finish a chapter if you must, just please, don't drop this site!

    ...

Okay, okay, please, don't take *that* long :)). Two volumes a year (well, 1 volume every 6 months) sounds good to me. It's not like the author can churn out volumes faster than you could translate them, in that case, hahaha

If your translation work is a serious burden on your studies, then by all means, let it take less priority. It's just that I seriously don't want to read another page of this beautiful series if I'm never gonna be able to finish the whole story anyways.

If ever you do intend on dropping this project altogether, would you mind passing it on to someone other person/group willing to translate it? Pretty please (=_=)~~?

  20. i'm with above on the idea that if everything falls give the site to someone that is willing to do it.
otherwise please continue translating, even only 1 vol per year is fine since i would like to read SPS to the end, and i'm interested in the future of EDEN and Onii-Ai.
but if it's that bad for your grades, please by all means take time to study not from the sleep but from the translation

    1. yupp eden and onii ai ftw. those light novel are what makes me keep coming back to this site and please dont shut it down there only a handful of sites that translate light novels. i cant wait another 14 hours looking at other blogsites and at google to find another site that translate so please dont i know it a selfish request but hear me out. whatever happens is your choice and i wont blame you cuz real life is also important

p.s. real life sucks and websites like this make me leave all my problems away

  21. hmmm maybe if here is more translator on this site then could be less burden on him and he can focus more on the school material so yeah if anyone here is good on chinese or jap then let go help him keep this blog alive the editor gonna help us too yay
